The 2026 edition is the first with 48 teams: 12 groups of four, played across 16 host cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The top two of each group and the eight best third-placed teams go through to a new round of 32, then the bracket runs as usual down to the final at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey on 19 July.
