About this species
The black pomfret (Parastromateus niger) is a species of carangid native to reefs of the Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean. This species is very important to local fisheries and is the only known member of its genus. It is not a true pomfret, being a species of jackfish, instead.

Parastromateus niger is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van horsmakrelen (Carangidae). De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1795 door Bloch.

乌鲹（学名：Parastromateus niger）又称乌鲳，俗名为黑鲳，为乌鲹属下的唯一物种，属辐鳍鱼纲鲹形目鲹科，因其外形类似于鲳科，故也曾被归类于鲳科，但两者的实际亲缘关系甚远。
