About this species
Rhodopygia cardinalis is een libellensoort uit de familie van de korenbouten (Libellulidae), onderorde Anisoptera (echte libellen). De wetenschappelijke naam van deze soort is voor het eerst voorgesteld als Libellula cardinalis door Wilhelm Ferdinand Erichson in een publicatie van Richard Schomburgk uit 1848.
De soort komt voor in Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Frans-Guyana, Brazilië, Ecuador en Peru.
Rhodopygia cardinalis staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als niet bedreigd, beoordelingsjaar 2007.
