About this species
Monomitopus agassizii is a fish species from the genus Monomitopus. It can be found in the Western Central Atlantic from the Caribbean Sea all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. It has small scales, the upper jaw is enlarged, and with the exception of the gill membrane and lips, its head is mostly covered with scales.

Monomitopus agassizii is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van naaldvissen (Ophidiidae). De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1896 door Goode & Bean.
De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als niet bedreigd, beoordelingsjaar 2009.

阿氏单趾鼬鳚（学名：Monomitopus agassizii），为辐鳍鱼纲鼬鱼目鼬鱼科的其中一种，分布于中西大西洋加勒比海及墨西哥湾海域，深度48至1125公尺，本鱼体型中等纤细，后部逐渐变细尖，头部相对较深，上轮廓凸起，其长度约为肛门前体长的二分之一，眼睛与吻部等长或略短，吻部尖，口部略倾斜，较大，延伸至眼后，颚齿细小、颗粒状且排列紧密，鳃弓下部前缘有1个齿丛，鳃耙28-33个，鳃盖骨具1根直而圆的粗壮棘，前鳃盖骨下角具3根发育不良的棘，背鳍鳍条100-106根；臀鳍鳍条83-89根，腹鳍位于前鳃盖骨下方，尾鳍与背鳍和臀鳍相连，体表覆盖细小、光滑、易脱落的鳞片，头部除唇部和喉部下方外，完全被鳞片覆盖，背鳍起点至侧线之间有7-10行斜向鳞片。，体长可达20.3公分，栖息在软底质水域，卵生，卵呈椭圆形，漂浮于胶状卵块中，属肉食性，生活习性不明。
