Erythrodiplax castanea is een libellensoort uit de familie van de korenbouten (Libellulidae), onderorde Anisoptera (echte libellen). De wetenschappelijke naam van deze soort is voor het eerst voorgesteld als Libellula castanea door Hermann Burmeister in een publicatie uit 1839.
De soort komt voor in Belize, Costa Rica, Trinidad en Tobago, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Brazilië, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay en Argentinië.
