About this species
Chrysophyllum cainito is a tropical tree of the family Sapotaceae. It is native to the Isthmus of Panama, where it was domesticated. It has spread to the Greater Antilles and the West Indies and is now grown throughout the tropics, including Southeast Asia. It grows rapidly and reaches 20 meters in height.

El caimito (Chrysophyllum cainito) es un árbol tropical de la familia Sapotaceae, originario de las áreas de baja elevación de América Central y del Caribe. Crece rápidamente y puede llegar a una altura de veinte metros.
Tiene varios nombres: cainito, caimito, cayumito, abiaba, estrella y aguaí. También se le conoce por el nombre de achras caimito.

金星果（学名：Chrysophyllum cainito），属山榄科多年生乔木，原产于巴拿马中部，被人类带至热带美洲和西印度群岛，在90年代起被引进中国海南、广东等地作农产品种植。在越南亦有种植，在游客区很常见。
成年金星果树高10米左右，树干灰色，叶面光滑，有茸毛，半革质的叶呈卵圆形或长椭圆形，暗绿色，叶背金黄色，长16至18厘米。果实苹果状，熟时黄色，横剖面可见星状的白色果肉从果心向外放射，故名星苹果。果肉未熟时有白色乳汁，似牛奶，又名牛奶果。
