Suriname's off-road trips mostly take place on the white-sand savanna belt south of Paramaribo. At Parabello in the Para district, quad and buggy routes run through old bauxite and sand pits, now overgrown and crossed by black-water creeks; the day usually adds a zipline, paddle boarding and a swim.
Jeep safaris head for the savanna and gallery forest around Zanderij, with your own driver-guide and a stop to swim in a creek. For more adventure, some operators run self-drive 4x4 trips with obstacles, mud and nights in a hammock camp.
