Guiana dolphins, known locally as profosu, live where the Suriname and Commewijne rivers meet just north of Paramaribo. Small groups feed in the brackish water and often surface close to the boat, so sightings on a short river trip are very likely.
Most tours leave the Leonsberg pier in the late afternoon, spend about an hour with the dolphins, stop at an old plantation village such as Rust en Werk or Johan en Margaretha for a local snack, and return after sunset. It is an easy, family-friendly outing that fits into any stay in Paramaribo.
