Colakreek is a blackwater creek in the Para district, close to Johan Adolf Pengel airport at Zanderij. Its name comes from the water, which is the colour of cola, and the white sand banks along it. A recreation park on the creek, run by METS, dates back to a site built for American soldiers in World War II.
It is a popular weekend spot for families from Paramaribo who come to swim, picnic and relax under the trees. Cabins make it possible to stay the night, which also suits travellers with an early or late flight.
