Palumeu is an indigenous village in southern Suriname where the Palumeu River meets the Tapanahony. Most residents are Trio (Tiriyó), with smaller Wayana and Apalai communities. Next to the village is Palumeu Jungle Lodge, staffed by people from the community.
Stays combine village walks, bow and arrow demonstrations, canoe trips on the Tapanahony, swimming at the Mabuka rapids and a hike up Poti Hill for a view over the forest. Getting there by small plane over endless rainforest is part of the experience.
