Galibi Nature Reserve lies at the mouth of the Marowijne River, on the border with French Guiana. Its beaches are among the most important nesting sites in the world for leatherback turtles, and green, olive ridley and hawksbill turtles nest here too.
The area is home to the Kari'na villages of Christiaankondre and Langamankondre, which can only be reached by boat. Visitors stay overnight in the villages, go out with a local guide at night to watch turtles lay their eggs, and learn about Indigenous life on the coast.
Nesting season: February to July
