The Event

What SEOGS Is

The Suriname Energy, Oil & Gas Summit & Exhibition is the largest energy event in the Caribbean, hosted by Staatsolie. The 2026 edition expects 230+ speakers, 260+ exhibitors and delegates from across the offshore industry as Suriname moves toward first oil from Block 58. Registration, programme and floorplans are on the official SEOGS website. For everything else happening that week, see our events calendar; for sector headlines, our Oil & Gas news section aggregates the trade press daily.

Getting In & Around

Airport, Taxis and Traffic

Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM) lies about 45 kilometres south of the city; the drive takes 45 to 60 minutes. Most hotels arrange transfers if you book ahead, and registered taxis are available at arrivals. In town, local ride-hailing apps and taxis are the easiest way to reach the venue, which has parking for 600+ vehicles.

Check On the Road for live road notices and our flights page for arrivals and departures at PBM. Expect heavier traffic around the venue on summit mornings.

Money

SRD, Cambios and Cards

Suriname runs on the Surinamese Dollar (SRD) and is still largely cash based. Cards work at the bigger hotels and restaurants, but keep SRD on hand for taxis, small restaurants and shops. Exchange at a licensed cambio or bank rather than on the street.

Live USD and EUR rates from the Central Bank and street cambios are on our Market Rates page, updated through the day. Banks with central branches include Hakrinbank and Finabank.

Where to Eat

Dinner After the Exhibition Floor

Paramaribo’s food scene mixes Surinamese, Javanese, Indian, Chinese and Dutch kitchens. A few reliable picks for client dinners and quick bites:

The full list, with menus, hours and WhatsApp contacts, is on our restaurants page.

Connectivity

SIM Cards and Data

Telesur and Digicel both sell prepaid SIMs at the airport and in town; bring your passport for registration. Central branches: Telesur Centrum and Digicel Wilhelminastraat. More practical arrival tips, including eSIM and ATM advice, are in our visitor guide.

Downtime

If You Have a Free Half Day

The UNESCO-listed historic inner city is walkable from most hotels. With a few more hours, cross the river for the Commewijne plantation loop, Fort Nieuw Amsterdam or the coffee trails of Peperpot Nature Park. Staying the weekend? Start with our Suriname itinerary.
