The city centre near the Waterkant and the historic inner city keeps you within walking distance of restaurants, banks and sights. Most larger hotels sit along the Suriname River in this area.

Interior lodges are reached by a mix of road and dugout canoe, or by a small plane. Most are sold as packages that include transport, meals and guided activities, since you cannot easily reach them on your own.

City hotels can often be booked close to your dates, except around holidays and major events. Interior lodges and popular eco-resorts should be booked early, because rooms are limited and transport runs on fixed days.

City hotels generally accept major credit cards and often quote rates in euros or US dollars. Smaller guesthouses and interior camps may prefer cash, so confirm before you arrive.

City hotels offer air conditioning, pools and business facilities in Paramaribo. Eco-lodges focus on nature with simpler rooms, shared meals and activities like jungle walks and river trips, and power or wifi can be limited.
