Shopping 337

The largest are Hermitage Mall and the International Mall of Suriname, both with fashion, electronics, food and services. Kirpalani and Maretraite Mall are also popular.

Look for Maroon woodcarving, handwoven textiles, local hot pepper sauce, Surinamese rum and coffee, and crafts from shops like Readytex. Markets are good for spices and small gifts.

Many shops open from around 8 or 9 in the morning until the late afternoon on weekdays, with shorter hours on Saturday. Some close on Sundays, though malls and supermarkets often stay open.

The Central Market in Paramaribo sells fruit, vegetables, fish and spices. Supermarkets across the city stock both local and imported goods.

Malls, supermarkets and larger stores usually accept debit and credit cards. Markets, street stalls and smaller shops are mostly cash, so keep some SRD on hand.
